Teaching has shaped my life for more than twenty years, but learning has never been confined to a classroom for me. I’ve taught kindergarten through third grade in public schools, worked as a school librarian bringing new life into an unused library, and spent recent years teaching second grade in a virtual setting—always focused on helping young learners build strong foundations in reading, math, and confidence. I’m a National Board Certified Teacher with a deep commitment to evidence‑based instruction and thoughtful, child‑centered learning.
In addition to my professional work, I’ve spent the last four years homeschooling my own children. That experience profoundly shaped how I see learning—not as something that happens only at a desk, but as something that grows through curiosity, conversation, routine, and real life. Homeschooling strengthened my appreciation for individualized instruction, family partnership, and flexible teaching that honors where each child is developmentally.
Gig Harbor is an important part of who I am as an educator and as a person. Some of my favorite moments happen outdoors—walking along the water, noticing the rhythm of the Puget Sound, and letting nature slow things down. Our local library is another home base for me: a place full of stories, questions, and quiet possibilities. That balance of structure and openness, routine and wonder, is what I strive to bring into my teaching every day.
Cedar & Sound Learning Co. grew out of this blend of experience—classroom teaching, homeschooling, and a deep love for this place. My goal is to create learning spaces where children feel supported, capable, and proud of their progress. When children feel safe and encouraged, they take risks. When they take risks, real growth begins.
